This series is about familiar places in the Waterford/Wexford area of Ireland. The locations are mostly on, or near the River Suir. The area is called the “Sunny Southeast” and this can make you smile at times when summer weather resembles winter conditions. But as anyone will tell you, just wait 5 minutes and the weather will change.
These images are a return to locations that inspire a sense of being home, a constant thread in my creative life as an artist. Last year the beauty and enduring presence of these familiar scenes that have been touchstones of where I come from, called out to be made visible.
I put aside other projects to work on them, and the first print in the series is of Passage East. I see the village as the cradle because of its deep sense of place and belonging. I then moved to make visible other places in the area such as Ballyhack, Hook Head Lighthouse, Dunmore East, Waterford City and so on.
